The Research team delivers next-generation software application enhancements and new products for a changing world. Working at the cutting edge, we design and develop software for platforms, peripherals, applications and diagnostics — all with the most advanced technologies, tools, software engineering methodologies and the collaboration of internal and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Work under limited supervision on tight schedule projects, with both internal and external teams.
- Perform end-to-end steps involved in solution development, while establishing subject-matter expertise in key horizontal or vertical themes. Steps include design, development, implementation and validation.
- Design and implement research prototypes that test emerging concepts
- Work with the academic and business community to develop new techniques and to contribute to research in the area of advanced communication networks.
- Prepare and review project deliverables documentation.
- Assist in the development of research project proposals
- Work in a dynamic team environment with strong technical aptitude.
Essential Requirements
- Advanced degree (masters or PhD) in a relevant computer science, engineering or closely related field.
- Background in virtualisation technologies, centralised networking, and security management; demonstrates a passion for networking and distributed programming
- Solid understanding of computer systems networks, system administration and storage.
- Strong programming skills with a solid understanding of object oriented languages and principles; solid hands-on coding with a modern programming language, C++, C#, Java, Ruby or Python.
- General understanding of routing, switching and wLAN technologies including TCP/IP, Ethernet, VLANs.
- Good appreciation of WAN traffic engineering, QoS technology and network protocol stack development.
- Experience and knowledge of service interface and public APIs.
Desirable Requirements
- Knowledge and understanding of open-source projects and protocols such as Openstack, OpenFlow or Open Compute.
- Accomplished skills in research and implementation; demonstrated capability to define research plans and carry out leading research.
- Previous experience with EU Framework projects including day-to-day execution of tasks and development of deliverables.
- Practical hands-on experience with IT infrastructure technologies; servers, storage, switches and virtualisation.
- Aptitude for collaboration and engagement with multiple stakeholders including academics, internal product development teams, industrial partners and customers.
