Group Internal Audit (GIA), together with Group Credit Review, forms the 3rd line of defence for the Bank of Ireland Group, providing reasonable assurance on the effectiveness of the Group`s risk management and internal control framework.

We provide independent, challenging, key risk focused assurance that meets our key stakeholders` needs. Our key stakeholders include the Court, Group Audit Committee (and subsidiary audit committees), the Court Risk Committee (and subsidiary risk committees) and senior management, as well as other key parties, including the Group`s regulators and external auditors.

We have a Group-wide remit and, as a result, have a deep insight into all of the Group`s activities, with access to the most senior levels of management within the Group.

Purpose of the Role

This role should appeal to ambitious individuals with relevant IT auditing and change management experience.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Audit IT & Change, the successful candidate will:

  • Lead a team of auditors that provides audit assurance
  • Ensure that they have an in-depth understanding of the key priorities, risks and challenges facing the Group
  • Develop and execute a rolling programme of assurance activity in order to evaluate and report on the effectiveness of risk management and the adequacy and effectiveness of the Group`s systems of internal control
  • Work effectively and proactively with their colleagues in GIA and other assurance providers in the Group, as well as the external auditors, to ensure a cohesive and coordinated approach to assurance provision
  • Present findings to senior management, Court and executive committees, subsidiary audit and risk committees and other key stakeholders, as required
  • Interact with external parties such as the Group`s regulators and external auditors on matters relating to GIA`s assurance activities and findings
  • Lead, motivate and manage an audit team to deliver high levels of individual and collective performance and ensure that staff capability keeps pace with developing stakeholder assurance expectations
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with senior management in and other relevant key stakeholders
  • Provide insightful analysis, risk assessments and recommendations to management, ensuring effective sharing of lessons learned and good practice

Essential Qualifications

  • Relevant 3rd Level Qualification - Level 8 on National Framework
  • RelevantIT auditing or technicalprofessional qualifications

Essential Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and expertise:

  • Good understanding of the Group`s key businesses, priorities and challenges, in addition to the regulatory environment/jurisdictions in which the Group operates
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, including the ability to interact effectively at senior levels, both internally and externally
  • Track record that demonstrates sound judgement, drive, agility and resilience
  • An ability to challenge management in an open and constructive manner while maintaining effective relationships
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to fully engage staff at all levels, in a complex and rapidly changing environment
  • Professional or third level qualification preferably in an IT project management, accounting, business or risk discipline and a proven track record in the area of IT risk. Ideally CISA qualified.
